The Help co-stars Jessica Chastain in a strapless black Alexander McQueen gown and Emma Stone in a high-necked Giambattista Valli Couture Spring 2012 gown. Jessica's silk organza gown has a very rich look with all that gold embroidery, and she paired it with Brian Atwood Alesha monster pumps. Emma Stone's look is more classic, but her performance on stage while presenting the 2012 Oscar for best visual effects with Ben Stiller, was so funny.



Natalie Portman wore a vintage polka dotted Christian Dior haute couture gown, a classic design back from spring 1954, complemented with statement jewelry and a Charlotte Olympia Perspex clutch. Natalie Portman presented the 2012 Oscar for the Best Actor in a leading role to Jean duJardin for The Artist. Kate Mara adopted a classic Hollywood look with wavy hair and dressed in a pink Jack Guisso Couture Spring 2012 gown with floral appliqués.

Floral prints at 2012 Spirit Awards

The 2012 Independent Spirit Awards were held Saturday night on February 25, 2012, at the Santa Monica Pier, in California. They are supposed to honor the best independent films of the past year; movies made in independence of the big-budget Hollywood studios. That was the original point of the Spirit Awards, but over the years the lines between independent and studio productions has blurred. The Spirit Awards now match the Oscars in sponsorships, big star attractions, goodie bags, and fashion.

Paula Patton and Emma Stone Essence awards

Essence magazine's 5th annual 'Black Women in Hollywood' lunch was held on February 23, 2012, at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event paid tribute to Whitney Houston, who passed away February 11, by playing her music throughout the lunch. Black actresses Kerry Washington, Paula Patton, Pam Grier, Octavia Spencer, and Shonda Rimes were honored at the event. Octavia's co-stars Emma Stone and Viola Davis presented her the breakthrough performance award. Tearing up, Spencer joked: "You would not believe that Paula Patton and I have the same trainer. I think he's spending a lot more time with you, Paula! ... I'm sorry; I'm trying to keep myself from crying." Paula Patton was presented with the Shining Star award and also cried through the acceptance speech: "I'm not going to be able to stop crying. I can't tell you how much this means to me..... All of this was way beyond my wildest imagination. Thank God for Essence. You celebrate black intellect and culture and artists and activists and politicians."

Beautiful Amanda Seyfried on the red carpet of her new movie Gone in Los Angeles, on February 21, 2012. She plays a young girl from Portland who is trying to find her missing sister while battling a serial killer; all in a thrilling 24 hour period. Seyfried tells The Morning Call newspaper: "I loved the emotional depth of Jill, and that she is strong enough to take matters into her own hands and fight for her sister's life when the police ignore her." At the premiere Amanda Seyfried was wearing a lovely lace dress from the Pre-Fall 2012 collection of designer Nina Ricci. Satin platform peep-toe pumps by Giuseppe Zanotti complemented the nude lace dress.

In the right photo, 5'3½" tall Amanda Seyfried is wearing '70s clothes in a scene from her upcoming movie Lovelace, which is based on the life of 1970s porn star Linda Lovelace. In an interview with the Chicago Sun Times, Amanda says: "The truth is I'm still developing my feelings on nudity and films. But it wasn't an issue for me when playing Linda Lovelace. There are some scenes of simulated sex, but we're not actually re-enacting the actual deep throat scenes. We are re-enacting scenes from Deep Throat, but not that actual act." She has previously done some nudity in the erotic thriller Chloe.



Promoting the thriller Gone, on "The Ellen Degeneres Show" on February 20, Amanda Seyfried was wearing a lovely Mulberry Resort 2012 printed dress. The 26-year old told Ellen that she knits while working out on the elliptical machine! Seyfried presented the host with a knitted hat and received in return underwear from Ellen, which she proceeded to wear under her dress. Twilight starlet Ashley Greene at the Donna Karan show on February 13, 2012, during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. Fashion winners 2012 Grammy Awards

Rihanna oozes sex appeal and oomph in this backless Armani gown, which reveals more flesh with a plunging v-neck and a thigh-high slit, but still looks classy on the res carpet of the 2012 Grammy Awards. Rihanna told E!:"This is a collaboration between Mr. Armani and myself. I wanted something a little bit like Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface." The singer was also a winner in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for All of the Lights. Right, Katy Perry also had a gown with a low-cut back, a pale blue Elie Saab beaded gown, which matched her current blue hair kept in a classy updo. The 54th Annual Grammy Awards were held at Staples Center on February 12, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. Other fashion winners from the event:



Carrie Underwood in a white Gomez-Gracia long-sleeve backless gown with silver sequin, which she complemented with a black Swarovski clutch. Right, Taylor Swift was wearing a nude silk mermaid gown from the Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Couture Collection of fashion designer Zuhair Murad. The gown looks pretty on the red carpet with all the intricate designed hand-embroidered gold and rose-gold beading. Meanwhile Taylor was a winner on stage with her song Mean bagging the Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song awards.



British soul singer Adele won three Grammy awards: best pop solo performance for Somebody Like You, best pop vocal album for "21", and the best short form music video Grammy for Rolling in the Deep. Having recovered from vocal chords surgery and lost some weight, Adele was a fashion winner on the red carpet, in her elegant black sequined Giorgio Armani gown with three-quarter length sleeves and a cinched waist, matching her beautiful hair and makeup, and Harry Winston jewelry. Fellow Brit Kate Beckinsale was wearing a crème silk mini dress by Zuhair Murad, with Grecian-inspired chiffon draping and a black velvet bow detail at the shoulder, matching the black Ferragamo pumps on her feet. Kate is a pretty girl and the dress is sexy enough...maybe too sexy? Grecian-inspired clothes should at least go down to the knees.

The 2012 Grammy Awards also had somber moments in memory of the recent passing of iconic singer Whitney Houston and British singer Amy Winehouse. Amy's parents were invited on stage by Tony Bennett who won the best pop duo or group performance Grammy for Body and Soul, which he had sung in collaboration with Winehouse. An emotional Mr Winehouse said: "We shouldn't be here. Our darling daughter should be here. Long live Whitney Houston. Long live Amy Winehouse and long live Etta James. There's a beautiful girl band up there."



E! News host Giuliana Rancic rocked a black satin asymmetrically draped cocktail dress by Georges Chakra Couture with a smart looking gold metal belt. Right, pretty actress Malin Akerman looked divine in a dazzling white cut out dress by fashion designers Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, known as the label Cushnie et Ochs, from their Spring 2012 collection.

Katharine McPhee Smash at inagural Super Bowl awards

Singer and actress Katharine McPhee dressed in leather and Ugg boots, with her chihuahuas in New York, on the sets of her new TV show Smash. The inaugural episode airs on NBC tomorrow; the show is about the making of a Broadway musical on Marilyn Monroe with McPhee playing one of the actresses vying for the title role. Katharine tells the Star Telegram: "I actually had my eye on this project for a couple of years. I thought: 'Wow, that sounds so original, so interesting. And I loved the idea of being able to tie my music --and when I say 'my music,' I mean singing -- into a show." Super Bowl XLVI aired on NBC this year and the network used the occasion to promote their shows, including Smash.

The NFL Honors show was hosted by Alec Baldwin who made a joke on NBC's poor TV ratings and the hopes they have about Smash; looking at McPhee in the front row he quipped: "We're counting on you Kat!" The night before Super Bowl XLVI, the NFL saluted its best players and plays from the 2011 season: Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers was announced as the NFL's Most Valuable Player, Ravens veteran center Matt Birk was named the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, while Katharine McPhee and Aaron Rodgers presented the defensive player of the year to Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs. The game itself was held on February 5, 2012, at Lucas Oil Stadium, and Katharine McPhee was rooting for the New York Giants to win. Her wish was granted! The New York Giants beat the New England Patriots 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI.

At the NFL Honors event, Katharine McPhee was wearing a pretty white silk/cotton Valentino cap-sleeve A-Line dress, with a round neckline and seamed waist. Rachel McAdams Valentine's Day Vow

Actress Rachel McAdams has taken a vow to make you cry this upcoming Valentine's Day; her romantic movie The Vow with Channing Tatum releases on February 10. Photographed above by Armando Gallo, Rachel addresses a press conference about her movie in Beverly Hills on January 26. McAdams told The Sunday Telegraph: "I never go into a movie wanting to cry. I try to avoid those films but I'm glad when I do see them because those movies stay with you forever and you have a cathartic experience. For me, they are the most meaningful." The Vow is not a complete Valentine's Day tearjerker like her previous film The Notebook; it has some elements of drama and twists and turn in the storyline.
