The 2012 Independent Spirit Awards were held Saturday night on February 25, 2012, at the Santa Monica Pier, in California. They are supposed to honor the best independent films of the past year; movies made in independence of the big-budget Hollywood studios. That was the original point of the Spirit Awards, but over the years the lines between independent and studio productions has blurred. The Spirit Awards now match the Oscars in sponsorships, big star attractions, goodie bags, and fashion.

The 2012 Independent Spirit Awards were hosted by Seth Rogen, and all actors who were honored, presented, or just in attendance took home goodie bags with a gift certificate from Wella Professionals, a year's worth of Tree Hut body care products, New Balance's brand new 1400 sneakers, new BRATZ Fun Fashion Dolls, a collection of Votre Vu luxury skincare products, personal speakers from Bowers & Wilkins, denim and tees by Cult of Individuality, lingerie accessories by Fashion Forms, and a gift certificate to the Ritz Carlton Central Park.
Olivia Wilde and Willem Dafoe present the Best Female Lead award to Michelle Williams for her role in My Week With Marilyn. Michelle is looking cute in a Louis Vuitton shorts suit, while Olivia Wilde is wearing a Gucci Pre-Fall 2012 strapless floral print gown.
